The African Network for Technology Policy Studies (ATPS), represented by one of its partners from Burkina Faso, met in Ouagadougou on September 15, 2023 to discuss a study on capacity building for research funding agencies. At today’s meeting, participants focused on gathering information of interest to the study’s sponsors. Conducted by the African Network for Technology Policy Studies-African University of Science and Technology consortium, the aim of the study is to take stock of research funding mechanisms in countries where they exist, to understand the roles of the key players and the policies in force in this field, and to identify the training needs of these structures. The conclusions of the study will serve as a guide for action to enhance the performance of existing funding agencies, and to develop institutional frameworks for the creation of new agencies in countries where none exist, notably Ghana and Nigeria.
